Frequently Asked Questions

Earthmoving and excavation services are needed for a wide range of plumbing and gas services.

These include:

  • Installation of new plumbing and gas lines
  • Replacement of ageing or damaged lines
  • Repair of water and gas leaks and pipe breaks
  • Installation and maintenance of sewer lines and septic systems

In each of these cases, the excavation must be done carefully to avoid damaging existing utilities, and it often involves specialised equipment and expertise to ensure the safety and integrity of the plumbing and gas systems.

Excavation is needed to install plumbing and gas lines underground for residential and commercial buildings. This includes digging trenches to lay pipes from the building to the property boundary. These pipes are then connected to water, sewer, and gas mains usually located in the street.

Excavation is also needed when installing outdoor features such as irrigation systems, outdoor kitchens, or gas lines for BBQs and fire pits.

Plumbing and gas lines can wear out because of wear, corrosion, or blockages. Excavation of the old pipes is necessary to safely remove and replace them. Water, sewer, and gas pipes can also be damaged by tree roots, ground movement, or from digging in the garden.

Slick N Co will do our best to use non-invasive methods to identify water and sewer pipe breaks with a CCTV camera and then pipe relining to fix it. However, excavation is required for more serious damage to water pipes, and to repair gas pipes.

If there is a significant water or sewerage leak in an underground pipe, excavation may be needed to locate and repair the leak. This is often the case when the leak is deep underground or if the pipe is difficult to access without removing the soil above it.

Gas leaks are serious safety hazards. Excavation is required to access and repair leaking gas lines, which may involve digging down to the line and replacing or sealing the damaged section.

Properties in rural and on remote islands may not be connected to a local council sewer system. Excavation is required to install a septic tank and the associated drainage field on the property.

Over time, septic systems may require repairs, such as replacing drainage field pipes or fixing leaks in the tank. Excavation may be needed to fix these systems.

Vacuum excavation blasts air or water into the site to break up clay and loosen soil. The hose then sucks up the debris from the hole so that it can be transported to another location.

The vacuum is less intrusive than mechanical excavators and can remove dry dirt up to 20 metres deep. However air vacuuming is less effective with wet soil, hard clay, and for removing large rocks.

Slick N Co offers vacuum excavation in extreme conditions when it is needed to avoid damage to existing infrastructure and services.
